Oracle Corp.’s 9i Application Server is the first to meet compatibility standards for electronic sharing of business data as set by the RosettaNet consortium, Oracle said Wednesday.
Version 9.0.4 of the 9i Application Server Release 2, scheduled to be out in the second quarter of this year, will offer integrated support for RosettaNet, Oracle said in a statement, confirming what it said at the Oracle World event late last year.
Besides Oracle, another ten integration software vendors are testing their products in an interoperability testing program set up by Oracle in cooperation with RosettaNet, Oracle said.
The RosettaNet protocol is based on XML (Extensible Markup Language) and is intended to allow companies to electronically link with suppliers and customers without the need to set up EDI (electronic data interchange) links, thereby reducing costs, resources and implementation time.
RosettaNet is meant for supply chain communications in the manufacturing industry. Intel Corp., for example, already uses RosettaNet.
The RosettaNet consortium was established in 1998 and consists of over 400 companies in the electronic components, information technology and semiconductor manufacturing industries.
