Lenovo adds thin client products to its PCs

Beijing-based Lenovo Group Ltd. has announced it’s offering Wyse Technology Inc.’s thin client products to its notebook and desktop PC clients.

San Jose, Calif.-based Wyse’s product line includes desktop thin clients, mobile thin client notebooks and advanced multimedia acceleration software that can integrate with Citrix Systems Inc., Microsoft Corp. and VMware Inc. virtualization products.

A thin client is a form of client/server architecture, where no data is stored and relatively little processing occurs on the client machine. The term derives from the fact that small computers in networks tend to be clients and not servers. In software applications that use the client-server model, the server performs all the processing.

One such product is the Wyse Device Manager, which acts as a device and asset management tool for network resources. Lenovo said the Wyse technology will go into its ThinkPad notebook and ThinkCentre desktop line. It said the thin clients will provide a secure, reliable and cost-effective way to reduce power consumption and IT maintenance costs.
