LeftHand launches VMware starter kit

Boulder, Colo.-based LeftHand Networks has announced a new Virtualization solution kit aimed at providing small and medium enterprise customers the ability to implement a VMware Inc. virtual environment without an external SAN.

The virtualization kit will combine the VMware Infrastructure Acceleration Kit with LeftHand’s Virtual SAN Appliance (VSA). The company says the consolidated starter kit will help provide customers who have smaller deployments or remote branch offices the ability to launch a highly available virtual environment for both applications and storage.

By virtualizing the internal disk capacity of VMware’s ESX Server and clustering the storage across multiple ESX Server hosts, LeftHand said its VSA will eliminate the need for the external shared storage needed to implement a virtualized infrastructure.
