Enterprise Networks Briefs

3Com Corp.

has introduced a suite of management applications for its networking systems. With the ability to manage and configure multi-domain VLANs based on LANE and 802.1q standards, Transcend Network Control Services Version 1.1 for Windows NT can support automated policy management for 3Com switched networks. The application’s approach of overlaying logical constructs onto a physical topology map can ease management of VLAN policies and use for the whole enterprise, according to the vendor. The services also provide security through user authentication, and are wireless network-enabled. Administrators can manage their networks from a remote Web browser, due to the Web-based design of the tool. While it runs on Hewlett-Packard‘s OpenView Network Node Manager Version 6.0, Transcend Network Control Services can also be installed in a stand-alone mode, eliminating the need for an open management platform. Transcend Network Control Services Version 1.1 for Windows NT is available for US$9,995. For more information, see 3Com at www.3com.com.
