Divona buys Canadian WiMAX gear

A Canadian WiMAX equipment maker has inked a deal in North Africa.

Divona Telecom, a Tunisian carrier, has agreed to purchase base stations from Markham, Ont.-based Redline Communications Inc. Divona, which plans to roll out WiMAX in the ctieis of Tunis, Nabeul, Souse, Monastir and Sfax, will spend US$1million on AN100U base stations.

Divona officials hope to double the company’s subscriber base every quarter over the next four years. The company has also signed deals with carriers in Cameroon, Tanzania and Egypt.

Redline’s RedMAX product set supports voice, video and prioritized data traffic. It was recently approved by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission for service in the U.S.
