Dell announces 12.1-inch tablet PC

Dell Inc. has unveiled its Latitude XT, a 12.1-inch tablet PC that has a full-sized keyboard with pen and touch capability.

The manufacturer says the PC will ship in January and costs at leat $2,499. Dell claims the Latitude XT’s “capacitive touch” technology will respond to a user’s touch even if no pressure is applied to the with the finger. Its digital palm rejection technology is designed to prevent inadvertent contact that disrupts input from the pen.

It has an optional media base for docking optical drives, a solid state drive with up to 64 GB of memory and hard dive with up to 120 GB of memory, plus an optional battery slice designed to provide power for up to 9.5 hours. It weighs less than four pounds.
