CollabNet buys Scrum development provider

Application lifecycle management software vendor CollabNet has acquired Danube Technologies, which provides project management for Scrum-based software development projects, CollabNet is announcing on Monday.

Danube offers its ScrumWorks Pro software for agile project and program management, along with training and consulting for agile projects. With agile, development is done in short iterations, accommodating changes in plans during the project.

“We bought Danube because they are the leaders in terms of certifying Scrum masters around the world,” said CollabNet CEO Bill Portelli.

“Scrum is essentially a project management approach to agile software development,” said Danube product owner Victor Szalvay. He will be CTO of CollabNet’s new Scrum business unit.

Scrum can serve as a wrapper around more engineering-based agile practices such as Extreme Programming, Portelli said. The concept of agile ALM enables agile-based development teams to manage the software development lifecycle from requirements gathering to release, CollabNet said.

ScrumWorks will continue to be sold separately from TeamForge, but a combined solution also will be offered in the second quarter of this year.

Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
