British Telecom teams up with CGI

British Telecommunications PLC recently partnered with Montreal-based IT services firm CGI Group Inc. BT says CGI will help it offer “single-window” e-government services to local power authorities based in Scotland, England and Wales. The federal government is challenging them to start offering online service by 2005, as part of its larger e-government efforts.

CGI says it will provide BT with expertise in project management, IT architecture, systems integration, application development and other forms of consulting.

The firm’s IT outsourcing experience will also help the telco to deliver implementation models that lead to a more integrated approach to service delivery and public administration, according to CGI.

In a prepared press statement, Michael Roach, president of Canada and Europe regions at CGI said, “Our Canadian expertise will be adopted in the U.K. to be part of what we believe to be the most comprehensive

e-government initiative in the world.”
