Novell Inc. has tied the knot with Callisto Software, and together the companies hope to cut wires. Novell in November announced a plan to acquire Callisto, which develops wireless device management software. The deal should result in a new product from Novell, ZENWorks for Handhelds, a management tool for wireless devices in enterprise environments. Novell says 91 per cent of its customers are investigating ways to bring wireless devices, like PDAs and cell phones, into the enterprise. Novell expects to complete the merger by early 2002. ZenWorks for Handhelds should quickly follow the deal, the company said. More details are online at
