Bell extends western reach

Manitoba Telecom Services Inc. and Bell Canada announced last month that they have created a new company by combining the interests of Bell Intrigna and Bell Nexxia. The new entity will serve Alberta and British Columbia and represent a direct challenge to Telus Corp. for Western Canadian telecom supremacy.

Nexxia is Bell’s telecommunications services and infrastructure arm. Intrigna, two-thirds owned by MTS, operates a national IP network.

Called Bell West Inc., the company will have a valuation of approximately $1 billion and will aim to capitalize on what the companies are calling “the solid growth opportunities Western Canada represents for telecommunications services.”
