Anticipated routers stir up a new core-edge debate

Juniper Networks Inc.’s anticipated router – popularly known as Gibson – promises to bring 40Gbps-per-slot capacity and multi-chassis scalability in the Terabit range. Competitor Cisco Systems Ltd., however, says it is no longer preoccupied with the Internet core of service provider networks and is in fact concentrating on the edge.
