Actuate integrates reporting with SAP

Actuate Corp. will integrate its reporting suite with SAP AG’s mySAP solutions and the SAP Business Information Warehouse to allow users to create custom reports from SAP and other enterprise data sources, the company is scheduled to announce Tuesday.

The integration of Actuate’s e.Reporting Suite 6.0 with mySAP technology is designed to allow SAP users to access a highly scalable information delivery platform that creates and runs complex reports, according to Actuate officials. Actuate can deliver highly interactive reports in a variety of detailed formats via Web sites, e-mail, SAP portals, and executive dashboards, said Rich Guth, senior director of solutions marketing at San Francisco-based Actuate.

Most SAP sites now are using different products for ad hoc queries, reports with sophisticated formatting and multidimensional reporting, Guth said.

“For SAP customers, we offer them a single reporting product to meet all their reporting needs,” Guth said. “It’s our intention to offer the same product for all those report capabilities while at the same time getting data from the business information warehouse and R/3.”

Via Web services, Actuate integrates data from sources other than SAP solutions as well as mySAP solutions — CRM, financials, human resources, supply-chain management, and product lifecycle management — by accessing them directly or through the mySAP Business Intelligence solution. Actuate 6 extends the existing report functionality of mySAP solutions for SAP customers where custom formatting and serving large user populations are an absolute requirement, officials said.

The announcement will address a significant pain point with SAP users, said Mark Smith, president of IT research firm Full Circle Strategies, in Redwood Shores, Calif.

“There’s still a significant demand for getting information out to people in a routine manner,” Smith said. “Corporations are still not getting the information out of SAP that they require. That information … has to go to a broader audience so people can understand how they are performing. A lot of people can do a lot of ad hoc querying and reporting but managing … thousands of users is a critical requirement in corporations.”

Actuate plans to announce products designed specifically for SAP solutions in coming months.
