Programmer outsources his job, surfs Web all day

Scheme even worked so well he was considered expert in several programming languages

Here’s an outsourcing model that has many CIOs scratching their heads.

Reports are circulating in the Internet about a developer working in a United States-based company has outsourced his own job and the arrangement has enabled him to goof off all day.

The China-based subcontractors which he hired were so good that the employee is now even considered an expert C, C++, Perl, Java, Ruby, PHP and Python by his bosses, according to a report appearing in the Register.

As the story goes, his ruse was only found out when the company called in Verizon to set up a basic VPN system with two-factor authentication to allow workers to work from home. Technicians got suspicious when they noticed a series of regular logins from Shenyang, China using the credentials of the company’s “star” programmer.

A deeper look into the programmer’s activities also revealed, he had taken on jobs from other firms and outsourced them as well.
